Target Price Adjustment & Price Match allows you to claim your discount either directly at the time of checkout or for up to 14 days after you’ve bought an item. This, of course, requires that you have an identical item available at a qualified competitor.

But what if you buy something at Target and then the next day the price goes down? Here is everything I’ve learned about how Target handles price changes!

Customers have 14 days to ask Target to change the price of any Target product (except marketplace items). With the original receipt or packing slip, you can do this at any checkout lane. For online orders, you’ll need to give Guest Services your order number, your email address, and information about the product.

How To Request Price Adjustment At Target?

At Target stores, you can change the price of both in-store and online purchases at any checkout lane or the Guest Services counter.

You don’t have to bring the item with you, but you will need proof that you bought it (as listed above). The cashier will then compare the old price to the new price and give you a refund for the difference.

Refunds in cash will be given right away. Refunds on credit or debit cards can take up to 5 days, but refunds on Target RedCards only take 1-2 days.

If you paid with a check, you will get a merchandise return card or cash, depending on whether or not the check has been cleared. For online orders, you’ll need to call Guest Services or start an online chat through the Target app or desktop website.

Returns at a Target Store

Take your packing slip, order information page, or receipt to Guest Services together with the item you want to return and the barcode printed on it. Using the method you used to pay, we can also locate your receipts. A member of our staff would gladly help you with your return whatever option you decide upon.

Returns by mail

Every return you make at Target will be sent back to you for free. Look at the details of your order to print a pre-paid return label. (You can also find out how far along your return is there.) When we get your return, we’ll send you an email to let you know when to expect your money back.

Print a receipt

When you want to return something you bought in a store, a receipt is helpful. The order details page makes it easy to print them. Giving a gift? There, you can also print a gift receipt.

Price Match Guarantee

  • If you discover a price on a qualifying item at Target.com, certain online rivals, or in a local print ad for Target or a competitor,
  • we will match that price. A request for a price adjustment must be made within 14 days after the original purchase to be eligible for a price adjustment.
  •  You may see the full list of online rivals as a PDF by visiting our website or by stopping by Guest Services.
    Within 14 days of your purchase,
  • if you discover the same item for less elsewhere, we will gladly refund the difference. The Target store will alter or match prices everywhere in the shop.
  • Call Target’s Guest Services at 1-800-591-3869 to place an order via the website.

Guidelines and limitations

  • A specified price must be valid at match time. We may check a competitor’s pricing and availability. Target may deny the request if we can’t verify the cheaper price.
  • The brand, size, weight, color, quantity, and model number must match. It must be in stock at the time of Price Match for authorized online rivals. One of these rivals must sell and fulfill it (PDF Download).
  • The deal website offers must be authenticated on the retailer’s main website and fulfill price match requirements.
  • Please bring the whole printed ad, or display the online pricing or digital version on your mobile device. Price modifications need original receipts or packing slips.
  • We match Target.com and in-store pricing. Target-to-Target pricing matching isn’t allowed.
  • The Target app must display the current store’s pricing during price matching.
  • Alaska and Hawaii Target locations don’t price match.
  • Target or Target.com won’t offer rain checks to match a competitor’s pricing on out-of-stock products.
  • We may restrict local and/or online price matching one identical item per visitor.

Target Return Policy

  • Most unopened products sold by Target in new condition and returned within 90 days may get a refund or exchange.
  • The return window for products sold on Target.com starts after the order has been invoiced. Invoicing occurs when any element of the order is shipped, delivered by a Shipt shopper or made available for pick up.
  • Some goods sold by Target have a modified return policy mentioned on the receipt, packing slip, Target policy board (refund exclusions), Target.com, or in the item description.
  • Items that are opened or damaged or do not have a receipt may be denied refund or exchange.

Target Return Exceptions

Returns and exchanges without a receipt may be limited. Other restrictions may apply.

Target Owned Brand items: If you’re not satisfied with any Target Owned Brand item, return it within one year with a receipt for an exchange or a refund.

Target RedCard purchases: Target RedCard™ debit and credit card holders will receive an extra 30 days to return nearly all items purchased with their RedCard at Target and Target.com. Visit Target.com/RedCard for full details and exclusions.

Holiday and limited-time-only collections: Items may have modified return policies.
Purchases at Optical, Pharmacy, Starbucks, and Target Tech: Items must be returned or exchanged at these areas.

International purchases: Target stores cannot accept international returns or exchanges, including international returns and exchanges of online purchases

All sales are final on the following items:

  • Collections that are damaged or missing pieces (e.g., sports cards, special edition Barbie dolls, porcelain dolls, action figures and die-cast cars)
  • Downloadable media and custom merchandise
    Unsealed breast pumps
  • Except when required by law, Target GiftCards, prepaid gift cards, and other specialty gift cards are not refundable for cash or credit.
  •  Cards for restaurants, movies, and the lottery are included in this category, as are those from Target, Visa, Mastercard, and American Express.

The following goods may be returned for a full refund if they have been opened:

  • Sound recordings, video recordings, computer programs, and computer software (exchange for the Same title, for same or different gaming platform)
  • Airbeds (exchange for Similar item)

Limited time for returns and exchanges on the following items:

  • All returned or replaced consumer electronics and media (other than Apple® devices) must be done so within 30 days.
  • The 15-day return/exchange period begins on the date of delivery for all Apple® items (except phones).
    Phones bought in-store or online with Order Pickup have 14 days to be returned or exchanged for another model.

Expenses Beyond the Basics: Cell Phones

  • Refunds or exchanges for phones bought with a carrier contract may be subject to early termination fees determined by the terms of that contract.
  • Items purchased under a carrier contract must be returned to a physical Target store and be processed by a Target Tech Rep.
  • Except where prohibited, phones may be subject to a restocking fee of up to $35. There will be a sales tax applied to the restocking fee in a few states. If the goods have not been opened, there will be no restocking fee.

Does Target still price match with Walmart?

Yes. As long as the competitor’s quoted price is legitimate and current, Target will match the price. However, Target stores and Target.com will not provide rain checks for price matching on goods that are temporarily out of stock.

Can I still price match after purchase?

If you return an item within a certain time frame (commonly 14 days), the store will often reimburse the price difference between what you bought and the reduced price. Store credit may be offered in lieu of a cash refund if the original payment method cannot be processed.
